Drug Name: VIRAZOLE

VIRAZOLE DESCRIPTION:
RIBAVIRIN - INHALATION (rye-buh-VYE-rin)

VIRAZOLE SIDE EFFECTS:
Notify your doctor if any of the following symptoms occur: chest soreness, breathing trouble, skin rash, decreased blood pressure, inflammation and redness of the eyes. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE VIRAZOLE:
VIRAZOLE: The medication is put into a special machine to make a mist which is then inhaled through an oxygen hood, face mask or oxygen tent. This makes sure the drug reaches deep into the lungs. Treatment is usually given for 12 to 18 hours a day for 3 to 7 days.

VIRAZOLE WARNING:
Check devices that assist breathing (ventilators)_for accumulation of ribavirin particles (precipitate). These particles may interfere with ventilator function and proper breathing. Sudden loss of breathing ability has occurred when VIRAZOLE was started. If this occurs, stop treatment. If ribavirin is re- started, do so with extreme caution and monitor breathing closely. Other medications (bronchodilators) may need to be used to help with proper breathing. Ribavirin is not for adult use.

VIRAZOLE USES:
VIRAZOLE is used to treat severe lung infections caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

VIRAZOLE PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history. VIRAZOLE must not be used during pregnancy by either the pregnant woman or her male partner. Two reliable forms of birth control must be used whenever at least one sexual partner is using this medicine, and for six months after stopping treatment. If you (or your partner) become pregnant or think you/partner may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. It is not known if VIRAZOLE appears in breast milk. Do not breast-feed without first consulting your doctor.

VIRAZOLE DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use (both prescription and nonprescription). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

VIRAZOLE OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

VIRAZOLE NOTES:
Your breathing will be closely monitored while taking this medication.

MISSED VIRAZOLE DOSE:
It is important that you receive each scheduled dose. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor.

VIRAZOLE STORAGE:
Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom.
