Drug Name: PROZAC WEEKLY PROZAC WEEKLY DESCRIPTION: FLUOXETINE ENTERIC-COATED - ORAL (flew-OX-eh-teen) COMMON PROZAC WEEKLY BRAND NAME(S): Prozac Weekly PROZAC WEEKLY SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Other side effects include heartburn, loss of appetite, headache, anxiety, flushing or sweating, change in sexual desire or ability. If these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop: rapid heart rate, difficulty swallowing, white spots on the mouth/tongue, difficulty urinating. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE PROZAC WEEKLY: PROZAC WEEKLY: PROZAC WEEKLY is taken by mouth, with or without food, once weekly. Your treatment with fluoxetine begins with regular (non-enteric coated) fluoxetine. Your doctor will monitor your progress, and then switch you to PROZAC WEEKLY. Wait one week after your last dose of regular fluoxetine before starting PROZAC WEEKLY. Do not crush or chew this enteric-coated product; swallow it whole once weekly. PROZAC WEEKLY USES: Enteric coated fluoxetine is used to treat depression. OTHER USES OF PROZAC WEEKLY: PROZAC WEEKLY may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. PROZAC WEEKLY PRECAUTIONS: Tell doctor your medical history, especially of: a recent heart attack, a history of seizures, heart/liver/or kidney disease, diabetes, any allergies. Because fluoxetine may make you dizzy/drowsy, use caution performing tasks that require alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcohol consumption. PROZAC WEEKLY should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. PROZAC WEEKLY is excreted into breast milk. The manufacturer of PROZAC WEEKLY states that taking PROZAC WEEKLY while breast-feeding is not recommended. Consult with your doctor about breast-feeding. PROZAC WEEKLY DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of: tranquilizers, antidepressants, MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline), lithium, phenytoin, carbamazepine, tryptophan, medication for anxiety (e.g., diazepam), drugs used for diabetes, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, venlafaxine, sumatriptan, dexfenfluramine. Fluoxetine may affect the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. Your dosage of diabetes medication may need to be adjusted when fluoxetine is started or discontinued. Consult your doctor. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. PROZAC WEEKLY OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, seizures, and restlessness. PROZAC WEEKLY NOTES: Do not allow anyone else to take PROZAC WEEKLY. MISSED PROZAC WEEKLY DOSE: If you miss a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly to establish a new dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
