Drug Name: PLAN B

PLAN B DESCRIPTION:
LEVONORGESTREL - ORAL (lee-voh-nor-JEST-rell)

PLAN B SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, breast tenderness, tiredness and weakness, headache, menstrual changes, and diarrhea may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: low stomach/abdominal pain If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE PLAN B:
PLAN B: Take one tablet of PLAN B by mouth as soon as possible, but within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected intercourse. Take the second tablet by mouth 12 hours after taking the first dose, or as directed by your doctor. PLAN B can be used at any time during your menstrual cycle. If you vomit within one hour of taking either dose of this medication, contact your doctor to discuss whether to repeat the dose.

PLAN B WARNING:
Smoking cigarettes while using PLAN B increases your chance of having heart problems. Do not smoke while using PLAN B. The risk of heart problems increase with age (in women greater than 35 years of age) and with frequent smoking (15 cigarettes per day or greater).

PLAN B USES:
PLAN B is used to help prevent pregnancy in women who have had unprotected sex (intercourse) or suspect a failure in their current form of birth control (e.g., broken condom). It is not intended to be used for routine birth control and will not stop an existing pregnancy (abortion).

PLAN B PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of diabetes, possible pregnancy, or unusual vaginal bleeding, and any allergies you may have, especially to oral birth control medication. Tell your doctor if your normal menstrual period is late by at least 1 week. PLAN B is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor for more details. PLAN B passes into breast milk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

PLAN B DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially other birth control medications (e.g., oral contraceptives, implants), any anti-seizure medication (e.g., carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), or rifampin. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

PLAN B OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding.

PLAN B NOTES:
Do not share PLAN B with others. As with other oral contraceptives, PLAN B does not protect or prevent against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

MISSED PLAN B DOSE:
If you miss a dose, contact your doctor immediately.

PLAN B STORAGE:
Store at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) is permitted.
