NITROGARD DESCRIPTION:
NITROGLYCERIN LA - BUCCAL (nye-troh-GLISS-er-in BUCK-ull)

NITROGARD SIDE EFFECTS:
Headache, dizziness, flushing, rapid heartbeat or restlessness may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. To prevent dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Notify your doctor if you experience: blurred vision, dry mouth, skin rash, nausea. Headache is often a sign the medication is working. Treat headaches with an aspirin or non-aspirin pain reliever as recommended by your doctor. If the headaches continue or become severe, notify your doctor. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE NITROGARD:
NITROGARD: This is a transmucosal (buccal) tablet designed to slowly dissolve in the mouth. Do not chew or swallow this. Place the tablet in your mouth under the upper lip or between the cheek and gum. It will dissolve and be absorbed into your body over a 3-5 hour period. Use this exactly as prescribed. Do not use this more often, increase your dose or stop using this without consulting your doctor. You can use a tablet 5 to 10 minutes before an event that causes chest pain. Do not swallow the tablet. Use a new tablet if you accidentally swallow the first. The tablet will dissolve faster if touched with the tongue or if you drink a hot liquid. Try to avoid this. Do not take at bedtime.

NITROGARD USES:
NITROGARD relaxes blood vessels. It is used to prevent chest pain (angina).

NITROGARD PRECAUTIONS:
Before using NITROGARD tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: heart problems, head injury or surgery, glaucoma, thyroid conditions, anemia, alcohol usage, drug allergies. Use caution engaging in activities that require alertness or in operating machinery if NITROGARD makes you dizzy or drowsy. Alcoholic beverages may increase the risk of fainting or of experiencing dizziness. NITROGARD should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if NITROGARD is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

NITROGARD DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter products to treat a cold that contain decongestants or prescription medication you may take including: aspirin, blood thinners, blood pressure medication, heart medication, sildenafil. Avoid intake of alcohol while taking NITROGARD since severe dizziness or drowsiness may occur. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

NITROGARD OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include a persistent, throbbing headache; dizziness; confusion; weakness; sweating; changes in heart rate; changes in vision; flushing; nausea; and vomiting.

NITROGARD NOTES:
Some persons may develop a tolerance to the effects of NITROGARD over time. It is less likely to occur with the transmucosal tablets than with other dose forms of this medication. Notify your doctor if the medication appears to be losing it effectiveness or if chest pain continues while taking this.

MISSED NITROGARD DOSE:
Try to take each dose as prescribed. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

NITROGARD STORAGE:
Store NITROGARD tightly closed in its original container at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
