Drug Name: NEOMYCIN SULFATE NEOMYCIN SULFATE DESCRIPTION: NEOMYCIN - TOPICAL (nee-oh-MY-sin) COMMON NEOMYCIN SULFATE BRAND NAME(S): Myciguent NEOMYCIN SULFATE SIDE EFFECTS: NEOMYCIN SULFATE may cause burning, stinging or redness when first applied to the skin. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE NEOMYCIN SULFATE: NEOMYCIN SULFATE: Clean and dry the affected area before applying the medication. To apply, gently massage a small amount of the medication into the affected area and surrounding skin. Continue to use the medication as directed for the full time prescribed. Stopping therapy too early may not completely clear the infection causing it to return. Do not cover with bandages unless instructed to do so by your doctor. Do not apply Neomycin to severe burns, deep wounds, puncture wounds, animal bites, or any seriously damaged skin. To do so would increase the absorption of Neomycin and possibly cause serious side effects (e.g., kidney damage, hearing loss). Contact your doctor for treatment. It may take one week before any improvement is seen. If no improvement is seen after four weeks, consult your doctor. Another medication may be necessary. Avoid using NEOMYCIN SULFATE around the eyes, nose or mouth. NEOMYCIN SULFATE USES: NEOMYCIN SULFATE is used to treat skin infections. NEOMYCIN SULFATE PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history especially: kidney disease, any allergies. Use of NEOMYCIN SULFATE for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.g., fungal infection). NEOMYCIN SULFATE should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if NEOMYCIN SULFATE is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. NEOMYCIN SULFATE DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use, especially of other skin products. NEOMYCIN SULFATE OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. NEOMYCIN SULFATE NOTES: NEOMYCIN SULFATE is prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it for another infection or share it with someone else. Another infection later on may require a different medication. MISSED NEOMYCIN SULFATE DOSE: If you miss a dose, apply as soon as remembered and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. NEOMYCIN SULFATE STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight.
