NEO-FRADIN DESCRIPTION:
NEOMYCIN - ORAL SOLUTION, TABLET (nee-oh-MY-sin)

NEO-FRADIN SIDE EFFECTS:
Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach ache, or soreness in mouth or rectal area may occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: ringing in the ears, trouble hearing, dizziness, difficulty urinating, rash. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE NEO-FRADIN:
NEO-FRADIN: Take NEO-FRADIN by mouth as directed. May take this on a full or empty stomach. Follow instructions closely regarding diet and other medications.

NEO-FRADIN WARNING:
NEO-FRADIN has caused kidney problems, nerve damage or permanent hearing loss, even at usual doses. Hearing loss can occur even after the drug is stopped. If you already have kidney problems or hearing difficulty, tell your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if any of the following occur: ringing in your ears, hearing loss, unusual change in amount of urine, dizziness, numbness, skin tingling, muscle twitching or seizures. NEO-FRADIN may be stopped if you develop kidney or hearing problems. Your doctor will monitor your progress to minimize the possibility of these effects occurring and may run certain tests (e.g., hearing and/or kidney tests). Do not use NEO-FRADIN with other drugs that can cause nerve, kidney or hearing problems. Other factors that increase the risk of these side effects occurring include advanced age or dehydration (unusual thirst).

NEO-FRADIN USES:
NEO-FRADIN is an antibiotic used before bowel surgery to prevent infection. It is also used in the treatment of coma due to liver disease.

NEO-FRADIN PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you have: a muscle disorder, Parkinson's disease, hearing loss, bowel disorders, kidney problems, allergies (especially to antibiotics). NEO-FRADIN should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if neomycin passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

NEO-FRADIN DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

NEO-FRADIN OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

NEO-FRADIN NOTES:
Neomycin has been found to have an effect on lowering blood cholesterol levels when used alone or in combination with niacin. This, however, is not an approved use of the drug. If your doctor has prescribed this for you for lowering cholesterol, discuss diet and other drug therapies as well.

MISSED NEO-FRADIN DOSE:
When used before bowel surgery, the doses are scheduled based on when the surgery will occur. Therefore, it is important to take each dose as scheduled and follow the dietary restrictions and bowel cleaning procedures closely. If you miss a dose of NEO-FRADIN or forget a step as outlined, consult your health care professional for advice on establishing a new schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose of medication to catch up. When used for coma, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume regular dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose.

NEO-FRADIN STORAGE:
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
