Drug Name: MYLANTA MYLANTA DESCRIPTION: CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - SUSPENSION (KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate) COMMON MYLANTA BRAND NAME(S): Children's Mylanta MYLANTA SIDE EFFECTS: MYLANTA is generally well tolerated. Notify your doctor if you develop: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache. Constipation and stomach cramps may occur. Notify your doctor if they continue or become severe. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE MYLANTA: MYLANTA: Take this by mouth as directed. Shake well before pouring each dose. Follow each dose with a full glass of water. Do not increase the dose or take this more often than prescribed. If you feel your dose is not effective, consult your doctor. MYLANTA USES: MYLANTA is an antacid used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas caused by stomach acid. MYLANTA PRECAUTIONS: Before taking this, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, any allergies. Avoid taking more doses than recommended. MYLANTA is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed. MYLANTA DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you use, including: certain antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcium channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate (kayexalate), iron-containing products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. MYLANTA OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakness. MYLANTA NOTES: There are various forms of MYLANTA available. The chewable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is faster acting. Talk to your health care provider or pharmacist about the best product for you. If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your doctor or pharmacist. If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding MISSED MYLANTA DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. MYLANTA STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Refrigeration may help improve the taste. Do not store in the bathroom. |
