Drug Name: METHERGINE METHERGINE DESCRIPTION: METHYLERGONOVINE - ORAL (METH-ill-er-go-NO-veen) COMMON METHERGINE BRAND NAME(S): Methergine METHERGINE SIDE EFFECTS: Some nausea or vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, or dizziness may occur. These should go away as your body adjusts to the medication. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, blurred vision, convulsions, shortness of breath, coldness in your hands or feet. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE METHERGINE: METHERGINE: Take METHERGINE exactly as prescribed. Do not take larger doses, more often, or longer than instructed. METHERGINE USES: METHERGINE is used to stop excessive uterine bleeding after childbirth or after early discontinuation of pregnancy. METHERGINE PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have a history of: heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney problems, liver problems, blood vessel disease, circulation problems, allergies. METHERGINE should not be used during pregnancy. METHERGINE appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. METHERGINE DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. METHERGINE OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, numbness and tingling of fingers and toes, and seizures. METHERGINE NOTES: Do not share METHERGINE with others. MISSED METHERGINE DOSE: If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the doses. METHERGINE STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
