MESNA - INJECTION (MESS-na)

MESNEX SIDE EFFECTS:
Because MESNEX is used along with anticancer medications, it is difficult to identify side effects of mesna alone. Bad taste in the mouth, soft stools, diarrhea, headache, nausea, vomiting and fatigue have been reported. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. An allergic reaction to MESNEX is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE MESNEX:
MESNEX: MESNEX is administered by injection into a vein by a health care professional. It must be given along with each ifosfamide dose and at 4 and 8 hours after each ifosfamide dose.

MESNEX USES:
Mesna is used along with ifosfamide or cyclophosphamide (anticancer medications) to protect against a bladder condition called hemorrhagic cystitis.

MESNEX PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: other illnesses, allergies. Because the multiple-dose vial of MESNEX contains benzyl alcohol, it must not be used on infants or newborns and should be used with caution in older children. Before using MESNEX, tell your doctor if you are pregnant. It is not known if mesna passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

MESNEX DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

MESNEX OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

MESNEX NOTES:
MESNEX does not prevent all side effects of ifosfamide. It is useful only in protecting against hemorrhagic cystitis; however, it is not effective in all patients.

MISSED MESNEX DOSE:
It is important that each dose be used as scheduled. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor who will help establish a new dose schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

MESNEX STORAGE:
After preparation, MESNEX is stable for 24 hours at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Before preparation, store the vials at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C).
