Drug Name: MELANEX MELANEX DESCRIPTION: HYDROQUINONE - TOPICAL (hi-dro-KWIN-own) COMMON MELANEX BRAND NAME(S): Eldoquin, Melanex, Nudit MELANEX SIDE EFFECTS: MELANEX may cause dry skin, burning, irritation, redness, cracking or peeling of the skin or a rash. Inform your doctor if any of these symptoms continue or become worse. Notify your doctor if you develop a skin rash or swelling in the area the medication is being applied. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE MELANEX: MELANEX: MELANEX is for use on the skin only. Use carefully if applying to the face. Avoid contact with the eyes and mouth. Use as directed, usually twice a day. For best results, apply a small amount of medication on the skin to be treated. A thin layer is all that is needed. Rub in gently. Do not use on irritated or broken skin. MELANEX USES: MELANEX is used to temporarily fade dark skin spots such as freckles and "age spots". MELANEX PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing illness, infections or allergies, especially to sulfites. MELANEX should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if MELANEX is found in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. MELANEX DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including the use of any skin products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. MELANEX OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed. MELANEX NOTES: If no effect is noticed after two months of treatment, notify your doctor. For best effects, avoid sun exposure. Use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing while outside. MISSED MELANEX DOSE: If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as remembered; do not apply it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. MELANEX STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Discard unused medication after the expiration date noted on the container. |
