Drug Name: MAXIPIME MAXIPIME DESCRIPTION: CEFEPIME INJECTION (SEFF-eh-peem) COMMON MAXIPIME BRAND NAME(S): Maxipime MAXIPIME SIDE EFFECTS: Notify your doctor immediately if an allergic reaction occurs while using MAXIPIME. Allergy symptoms include skin rash, hives, itching or difficulty breathing. MAXIPIME may cause headache, confusion, dizziness, vaginal yeast infection and irritation at the injection site. Inform your doctor if these effects continue or become severe. Tell your doctor if you experience nausea, vomiting, severe stomach cramps, watery or bloody diarrhea, fever or unusual weakness, unusual bleeding or bruising or yellowing of the eyes during or after using MAXIPIME. Unlikely to occur but report a change in amount of urine. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE MAXIPIME: MAXIPIME: MAXIPIME is given by injection into a muscle or vein usually twice a day for 7 to 10 days based on the type and severity of your infection. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do this by using the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night as prescribed. Continue to use MAXIPIME for the full time prescribed even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a reoccurrence of the infection. Do not use MAXIPIME if cloudy. MAXIPIME USES: MAXIPIME is an antibiotic used in the treatment of a wide variety of bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, pneumonia and skin infections. MAXIPIME PRECAUTIONS: Before using this, tell your doctor if you have any allergies, especially to penicillin, cephalosporins or any antibiotics. Also inform your doctor if you have a history of kidney disease, liver disease, bleeding disorders, seizure disorders or colitis. Use of MAXIPIME for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.g., oral, bladder, colon or vaginal yeast infection). Use in patients under 2 months of age has not been established. Caution in the elderly as kidney function generally is poorer. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. MAXIPIME is excreted into breast milk in small amounts. Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding. MAXIPIME DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including blood thinners, water pills (diuretics) and other antibiotics. MAXIPIME may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. MAXIPIME may cause false positive results in tests for sugar in the urine. Diabetics should use TesTape rather than Clinitest tablets to test for sugar while using MAXIPIME. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. MAXIPIME OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include muscle spasms and seizures. MAXIPIME NOTES: MAXIPIME has been prescribed for your current condition only. Use this as directed. Make sure needles, tubing and supplies are stored safely and disposed of properly as directed by your care provider. MISSED MAXIPIME DOSE: Try to use each dose as scheduled. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered but not if it is near the time for the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. MAXIPIME STORAGE: Store solution in the refrigerator as directed. Check the expiration date on the label and properly discard any unused medication after that time. |
