Drug Name: LOTREL LOTREL DESCRIPTION: BENAZEPRIL W/AMLODIPINE-ORAL (beh-NAZE-eh-prill WITH am-LOW-deh-peen) COMMON LOTREL BRAND NAME(S): Lotrel LOTREL SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fatigue may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. Cough, loss of appetite, change in taste, dry mouth, increased sweating, or nasal congestion can also occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain (angina); a rapid or pounding heartbeat; sore throat, fever, difficulty swallowing, vision changes, muscle aches. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE LOTREL: LOTREL: Take LOTREL by mouth as prescribed, usually once a day. Do not skip doses, increase your dose or stop taking this without your doctor's approval. It is important to continue taking medication for high blood pressure even if you do not feel ill. Most people with high blood pressure do not have any symptoms. LOTREL WARNING: LOTREL can cause serious fetal harm if used during the last six months of pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, stop using LOTREL and immediately contact your physician. LOTREL USES: LOTREL is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). LOTREL PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing kidney disease, heart disease, liver disease, diabetes, blood disorders, any allergies. Limit intake of alcohol which enhances dizziness. Because LOTREL may make you dizzy or lightheaded, use caution operating machinery or engaging in activities requiring alertness. Rise slowly from a lying or seated position to minimize dizziness. LOTREL is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using LOTREL. It is not known if LOTREL appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. LOTREL DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: heart medications, potassium supplements, salt substitutes, medications for cough/ cold/allergies. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. LOTREL OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unusual dizziness, fainting, and unusually rapid or slow pulse. LOTREL NOTES: Lab tests may be done periodically while taking this medication to check its effectiveness and to prevent side effects. Learn how to monitor your pulse and blood pressure. MISSED LOTREL DOSE: Try to take each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. LOTREL STORAGE: Store LOTREL at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom.
