Drug Name: LITHOSTAT LITHOSTAT DESCRIPTION: ACETOHYDROXAMIC ACID - ORAL (AH-seh-toe-hi-DROK-suh-mick acid) COMMON LITHOSTAT BRAND NAME(S): Lithostat LITHOSTAT SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, nausea, loss of appetite or fatigue may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly mental/mood changes. Unlikely but report promptly weakness, dark urine, yellowing eyes, rash or unusual hair loss. Very unlikely but report promptly irregular heart beat, pain/redness of the leg, trouble breathing or chest pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE LITHOSTAT: LITHOSTAT: LITHOSTAT is taken by mouth three to four times daily on an empty stomach, as directed. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not take more than 1.5 grams daily. LITHOSTAT USES: LITHOSTAT is used, in addition to antibiotics or medical procedures, to treat certain types of bladder (urinary tract) infections. LITHOSTAT PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including any allergies, kidney disease, blood clots in legs, blood disorders (e.g., anemia) or alcohol use. LITHOSTAT may cause a reaction when used with alcohol, including rash or a feeling of warmth. If you experience these effects, avoid alcohol while taking LITHOSTAT. Consult your doctor or pharmacist about the use of alcohol. LITHOSTAT should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Also, consult your doctor regarding use of reliable birth control while using LITHOSTAT. It is not known whether LITHOSTAT is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using LITHOSTAT is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. LITHOSTAT DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially multivitamin or iron supplements. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. LITHOSTAT OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include anxiety or severe nausea and vomiting. LITHOSTAT NOTES: Do not share LITHOSTAT with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor for side effects and response to therapy. MISSED LITHOSTAT DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. LITHOSTAT STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 - 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. |
