Drug Name: DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE DESCRIPTION: MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE - INJECTION (CONTRACEPTIVE) (meh-DROX-ee-pro-JESS-tur-own A-seh-tate) COMMON DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE BRAND NAME(S): Depo-Provera Contraceptive DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE SIDE EFFECTS: DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE causes irregular menstrual bleeding patterns but with continued use may result in an absence of menstrual bleeding. Headache, stomach cramps, dizziness, nausea, depression, breast tenderness, fluid retention, bloating, hot flashes, acne, change in appetite, sweating, weight gain, change in sexual desire or pain and irritation at the injection site may occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: a sudden severe headache, vomiting, fainting, pain in the calf associated with warmth/red- ness/swelling, breathing trouble, chest pain, vision changes, numbness in arms or legs. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE: DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE: DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE is given by injection into a muscle usually once every 3 months. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE USES: DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE prevents ovulation resulting in a contraceptive effect. It is used to prevent pregnancy in women. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: liver disease, diabetes, seizure disorders, kidney disease, heart trouble, eye problems, asthma, a history of depression, migraines, blood clots, miscarriage, breast cancer, any allergies. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE DRUG INTERACTIONS: DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE can alter the effects of other medications. Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE can alter results of certain laboratory tests. Remind your doctor you are taking DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE if you are scheduled for any lab tests. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE NOTES: A physical exam including a breast exam, pelvic exam and a pap smear will be done prior to starting DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE. MISSED DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE DOSE: It is important to take each dose as scheduled. If you miss a dose, contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule. DEPO-PROVERA CONTRACEPTIVE STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. |
