Drug Name: DEPO-PROVERA DEPO-PROVERA DESCRIPTION: MEDROXYPROGESTERONE ACETATE - INJECTION (ANTICANCER AGENT) (meh-DROX-ee-pro-JESS-tur-own A-seh-tate) COMMON DEPO-PROVERA BRAND NAME(S): Depo-Provera DEPO-PROVERA SIDE EFFECTS: DEPO-PROVERA causes irregular menstrual bleeding patterns but with continued use may result in an absence of menstrual bleeding. Headache, stomach cramps, dizziness, nausea, depression, breast tenderness, fluid retention, bloating, hot flashes, acne, change in appetite, sweating, nervousness, weight gain or pain and irritation at the injection site may occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: a sudden severe headache, vomiting, fainting, pain in the calf associated with warmth/red- ness/swelling, breathing trouble, chest pain, vision changes, numbness in the arm or legs. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE DEPO-PROVERA: DEPO-PROVERA: DEPO-PROVERA is given by injection into a muscle usually once a week. Once improvement occurs and the cancer appears to be stabilized, it may be given less frequently, such as once a month. DEPO-PROVERA USES: DEPO-PROVERA is used to treat certain types of cancer. DEPO-PROVERA PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: liver disease, diabetes, a seizure disorder, kidney disease, heart trouble, eye disorders, asthma, a history of depression, blood clots, migraines, previous miscarriage, any allergies. DEPO-PROVERA should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. DEPO-PROVERA appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DEPO-PROVERA DRUG INTERACTIONS: DEPO-PROVERA can alter the effects of other medications. Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. DEPO-PROVERA can alter the results of certain laboratory tests. Remind your doctor you are taking DEPO-PROVERA if you are scheduled for any lab tests. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. DEPO-PROVERA OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. DEPO-PROVERA NOTES: It is important you be monitored while using this medication. Keep all doctor and lab appointments. MISSED DEPO-PROVERA DOSE: It is important to take each dose as scheduled. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. If you miss more than one dose, contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule. DEPO-PROVERA STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. |
