Drug Name: DEMI-COF DEMI-COF DESCRIPTION: PHENYLEPHRINE/CODEINE/CHLORPHENIRAMINE/POTASSIUM IDODIDE ORAL (fen-ill-EFF-rin/KO-deen/klor-fen-IR-uh-meen/poh-TASS-ee-um EYE-oh-dyed) COMMON DEMI-COF BRAND NAME(S): Pediacof, Pedituss DEMI-COF SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, dry mouth or anxiety may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop any of the following effects while taking DEMI-COF: chest pain, rapid pulse, skin rash, high blood pressure, painful or difficult urination, tremors, nervousness, trouble sleeping, mental confusion. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Also limit your intake of alcoholic beverages which will aggravate these effects. Use caution performing tasks requiring alertness if this medication causes you to feel drowsy. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE DEMI-COF: DEMI-COF: DEMI-COF is best taken with a full glass of water after a meal or snack. Take DEMI-COF as prescribed. Do not increase your dose or take this more often than directed. DEMI-COF USES: This combination product contains a decongestant, low-dose narcotic, antihistamine and an ingredient that may help loosen mucous. It is used to treat a cough and relieve symptoms associated with the common cold, allergies, hay fever, sinusitis and other respiratory illnesses. DEMI-COF PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney disease, heart disease, lung disease (e.g., asthma, emphysema), high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, prostate trouble, depression, a history of drug dependency, any allergies. DEMI-COF should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Since small amounts of DEMI-COF are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding. DEMI-COF DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including any medication for: blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disease, depression. Also, tell your doctor if you take any of these medications: MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), cimetidine, narcotic pain medications (e.g., codeine). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. DEMI-COF OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, shaking, numbness or tingling in arms or legs, hot or cold skin, slowed breathing, large and unchanging pupils, and deep sleep or loss of consciousness. DEMI-COF NOTES: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking this medication. It will help to break up mucus and clear congestion. MISSED DEMI-COF DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. DEMI-COF STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. |
