CYSTAGON DESCRIPTION:
CYSTEAMINE - ORAL (sis-TAY-uh-meen)

CYSTAGON SIDE EFFECTS:
CYSTAGON may initially cause nausea, loss of appetite, tiredness, drowsiness, and diarrhea as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop vomiting, a fever or a skin rash while taking CYSTAGON. A change in the dose may be necessary. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

HOW TO USE CYSTAGON:
CYSTAGON: Take CYSTAGON by mouth exactly as prescribed usually 4 doses a day. During the first few weeks your dose may gradually be increased to allow your body to adjust to the medication. Take CYSTAGON with food or just after a meal to reduce stomach upset. For children, open the capsules and sprinkle the contents onto soft food such as applesauce or mashed potatoes just prior to eating.

CYSTAGON USES:
CYSTAGON is used to prevent kidney damage and other problems in persons with cystinosis, a hereditary metabolic disorder.

CYSTAGON PRECAUTIONS:
Tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing kidney disease, liver disease, hypertension, blood disorders or if you have any allergies. CYSTAGON should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if CYSTAGON appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

CYSTAGON DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

CYSTAGON OVERDOSE:
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

CYSTAGON NOTES:
Laboratory tests will be done periodically while taking CYSTAGON to monitor its effects and determine your appropriate dose.

MISSED CYSTAGON DOSE:
Try to take each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is within 2 hours of the next dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.

CYSTAGON STORAGE:
Store CYSTAGON at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children.
