Drug Name: BRONCHOLATE BRONCHOLATE DESCRIPTION: GUAIFENESIN WITH EPHEDRINE - ORAL LIQUID (gweye-FEN-eh-sin WITH eff-ED-rin) COMMON BRONCHOLATE BRAND NAME(S): Broncholate BRONCHOLATE SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, stomach upset, loss of appetite, nervousness, dizziness, or headache may occur the first several days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, a rapid heart rate, anxiety, fear, difficulty urinating (men only), difficulty sleeping. Because BRONCHOLATE may cause dizziness, use caution performing tasks requiring alertness and limit alcohol consumption as it may aggravate this effect. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. HOW TO USE BRONCHOLATE: BRONCHOLATE: Take BRONCHOLATE by mouth as directed. Do not increase the dose or take it more often or longer than prescribed. It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids (6-8 glasses a day) to help relieve congestion. BRONCHOLATE USES: Guaifenesin is an expectorant used to help clear mucous and congestion. Ephedrine is a decongestant and bronchodilator which helps relieve nasal congestion and improve breathing. This combination medication is used to treat symptoms associated with a cold or respiratory tract illness. BRONCHOLATE PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing heart or lung disease; emphysema, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, diabetes mellitus; difficulty urinating or an enlarged prostate; history of seizures. BRONCHOLATE should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. It is not known if BRONCHOLATE appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. BRONCHOLATE DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: medication for high blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you have taken MAO inhibitors in the last two weeks: furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine, linezolid, moclobemide, procarbazine. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. BRONCHOLATE OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include rapid or irregular heartbeat; drowsiness; slow, shallow breathing; vomiting; convulsions; and dilated pupils. MISSED BRONCHOLATE DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. BRONCHOLATE STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom. |
